Wisdom: The World of Emotions

Social Emotional Learning through Play

Children struggle daily with difficult emotions like anxiety, anger, and sadness. That's why we created Wisdom: The World of Emotions, the world's first game-based social emotional learning app for kids ages 4 to 8. Through interactive games, Augmented Reality exercises, and real life practice activities, kids have fun learning how to identify their feelings and use healthy coping strategies.

When kids can identify their feelings and use healthy coping strategies, they are more likely to show empathy for others, build positive relationships, and be confident in their abilities to reach their goals.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Children today must navigate a world where uncertainty, grief, and violence are pervasive. Teaching kids important social emotional skills such as self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, self-management, and responsible decision-making empowers them with healthy and positive tools that foster resilience and help them thrive.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Like Maria Montessori, we believe that "Play is the work of the child." Our social emotional learning app Wisdom: The World of Emotions is entirely game-based.
Kids go on an adventure through the Kingdom of Anger and the Kingdom of Fear, guided by Wisdom, the main character. They play games focused on facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, conflict resolutions, and more. As they succeed, they win superpowers which are calming strategies kids can use in their daily lives.
With Augmented Reality, kids can practice these coping strategies, such as taking deep breaths, by visualizing their inhale and their exhale.
Wisdom is evidence-based: a Randomized Control Trial showed that Wisdom positively impacts children's emotion processing, fostering successful learning.
Parents can access a collection of tips and hands-on activities to help their children continue to practice through play.
Educators can access 300 ready-to-use teaching resources to build community and empathy.

How has it been spreading?

Our freemium app Wisdom: The World of Emotions is available on the App Store and Google Play Store. It has been spreading mostly through word of mouth. It's available in English, French, Ukrainian and Spanish and we continue to add more languages.
Wisdom has impacted 250,000 children across 1,500 schools. We've received incredible feedback from families:
"My son has learned breathing techniques for when he starts to feel mad. We downloaded the app months ago and he still uses his breathing to calm down."
"He's thinking more about his feelings and how to respond to them in a more effective and healthy way."
Our goal for the next couple of years is to continue to enrich the app with new languages such as Arabic, new games, and to continue to scale, through schools, families, and NGOs.
