About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Smarty Health Info Hub was created to address the urgent need for reliable health education in Uganda, where 70% of the disease burden is preventable. With misinformation rampant, Smarty offers engaging, accurate health and climate information through digital tools, empowering youth to make informed decisions and fostering a health-literate community.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, Smarty Health Info Hub is a dynamic digital platform that integrates various interactive elements to educate and engage youth on health and climate change. It features podcasts, animated videos, gamified learning modules, and comprehensive online courses for students aged 10-26. These tools make learning enjoyable and accessible, ensuring complex health and climate information is easily understood. Smarty also includes peer-to-peer sessions where students discuss and learn from each other, fostering a collaborative learning environment. By partnering with schools and community organizations, Smarty is implemented in educational settings for maximum impact. Additionally, it includes in-person activities like Zumba sessions, tree planting, and health workshops to reinforce digital learning with practical experiences, empowering young people to lead healthier, more sustainable lives.

How has it been spreading?

Smarty Health Info Hub has been spreading through strategic partnerships with schools and community organizations, reaching over 50 educational institutions. Our interactive content is shared widely via social media, attracting a growing online community of engaged learners. We've conducted on-ground workshops and events, which have further amplified our reach. Collaborations with notable health organizations and endorsements from influencers have also boosted our visibility. Our peer-to-peer learning sessions have created a ripple effect, with students advocating for Smarty within their networks.
